Tiffin food is the simplest yet the best tasting food ever. It's healthy, it's fuss-free and it doesn't burn a hole in your pocket. Coming from Bangalore, I'm used to eating darshini (kannada version of tiffin) food. It is very different from the tiffin food you get in Tamil Nadu or Andhra - the taste, the spices and the most distinguishing factor, the sambar!
Andhra tiffin food is very focused on idli, dosa and vada. Especially dosa which includes the local MLA pesarattu dosa whose batter is made of green gram (moong dal) and is stuffed with upma instead of the usual potato bhaji. And the sambar is on the sweeter side and does not have too many vegetables except onions.
A new entrant in the Andhra tiffin scene in Kondapur is Mathrushree Tiffins. Close to a lot of offices with a prime location of Kondapur main road, it impresses with it's food. And it has a very clean and neat ambience.

I was in the mood for a plain dosa. The dosa batter was fresh and made just like at home without much oil or ghee. The sambar was the typical Andhra sambar which is on the sweeter side.
The ghee idlis were hot and soft. They were big sized idlis topped with a touch of rich ghee. It was served with red chilli karam podi and green chilli chutney. The chutney was the hit dish of the place. A simple coconut chutney made awesomely spicy with fresh green chillis. I had all the dishes with this chutney ditching the sambar.
The vadas are pretty big too. Not the crispiest and hottest vada I've eaten, but these weren't bad either. They were crispy enough on the outside with a very soft inside. Again the batter tasted fresh and had the usual tastes of curry leaves, green chillis and ginger. It tasted really good with the chutney (my favourite combination).
I love how generous the servings are in Mathrushree. The pooris were huge and not oily. It is served with potato sagu made with the typical coconut base with carrots added and a simple mustard temper. The garam masala taste wasn't overpowering which made the sagu lighter in taste and worked well with the pooris.
What I liked about Mathrushree was it's clean, fast and the food is not very oily. It's a good place for a quick week night dinner or a lazy Sunday breakfast. They have an extensive menu including a lot of rice dishes for lunch/dinner. They also serve good coffee - both filter and instant. I hope that they continue serving good quality food in a clean environment.
