Over the flames

My most favourite comfort food in the whole world is rice. But rice is not a very social food (explanation below). I can't have rice everywhere without a spoon, walking around the room holding the plate ensuring rice grains don't fall around.

But recently I have realized I have found a sub comfort food! PIZZA! Now this is what is called a social food (Lonely Planet told me so and I completely agree). It doesn't need an accompaniment, a plate and its not that messy. Just order a pizza from your friendly neighborhood pizza joint and you can enjoy a yummilicious pizza carrying it around the room with just a tissue paper. It's food you can have while watching a movie, playing a game, having beer, anything. It's hassle-free and your friends love it too! So its a social food!

I have a liking for thin crust pizza. Little Italy was the place I was introduced to it and I'm in love with it since then. So I was excited to read about a new place near office which made thin crust pizza and at half the price at Little Italy (I still love Little Italy). After many plans trying to go to this place, we finally went to Over the Flames before watching an IPL match.

It's small quaint place. Not fancy and just concentrates on the business of feeding good Italian food to its customers. It has a semi-open kitchen - you can see the kitchen through the glass window dividing the dining area and the kitchen. The menu was pretty elaborate. They had appetizers, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and an interesting list of desserts. And the prices were very friendly to the pocket.

We were all really hungry (thank God!) so we ordered the spinach potato soup, 2 starters - crispy mushroom and canapes, 2 10" pizzas - a paneer pizza and the OTF special and 2 pastas - macaroni with cheese and the fettuccine. We were not sure if this was a lot or less since we didn't know the quantities they served. The service was ok. A person in hurry would not appreciate the lack of knowledge and slowness in the service. Only one person knew the menu well and the only other staff to take orders did not have a clue of the menu. The owner took our orders when we were not able to attract the staff's attention.

The soup came in first. It was pretty tasty, with the potato having a stronger taste. It also contained nuts in it, which was pretty interesting. You can try it if you like soups. The mushrooms came next. Was disappointed with the quantity. There were three pieces of 2 mushrooms sandwiched with cheese and seasoning stuffing. We were five of us. So sharing was not fun! It was so yum!!!! We asked for a second round but they were over for the day unfortunately.

The canapes came in next. It was pretty good, bruchetta bread pieces with tomato sauce and cheese grilled. the pastas came next. We had ended up ordering two pastas with the same sauces! So it was two pastas with the same sauce, vegetables and seasoning but one with macaroni and one with fettuccine. The sauce was little thick and sweetish but good nonetheless. The vegetables were fresh.

Finally the pizzas arrived! And they were pretty big pizzas! The same size as the ones served in Little Italy and each had 6 slices. The base was pretty thin which I found nice but my friends compared it with roti. The paneer pizza was nice and spicy. He had put an Indian tomato base, the paneer topping and cheese. The OTF special was slightly bland, but it had a lot of veggies and cheese. I liked the pizza and it made me feel really happy! OTF is my official comfort food place and its awesome that they deliver!

Coming to the desserts, they had some common dessert like walnut brownie with ice cream, chocolate fudge cake and exotic dessert like tiramisu, a chocolate filled cup cake with fruits, which unfortunately they didn't have that day as frequent power cuts were spoiling the dessert. A nearby table seemed very happy with their tiramisu so I ordered one of that and we ordered two of walnut brownie with ice cream.

If not for the pizza, the pasta or even the mushrooms, you have to go for the Tiramisu! I've never liked tiramisu as I always find dry and mealy every time I order it. But this one was just brilliant! Moist cake, yum caramel and such a generous amount of dark rum put on it! It was just heavenly! We ordered a second round as we couldn't get enough of just one!

I don't have pictures as I didn't think of taking pictures and also was really hungry! But trust me, this is a must-visit place!
