Delhi Smackers (DS) gets the honor (I believe so) to be the first restaurant to be featured in our blog. Their food gives them the honor.
Weird name - 'Delhi Smackers'. If they were made fun of, which I think they already have been, a weird IPL team name, blah, blah (OK, I'm not good at making fun). But it makes me think of how the thought process is when you want to name your business. Any event that needs to be named has to be different, hatke (has a twist to it), not cliched, attracts the people's attention, and the likes. Something no one will ever think of. So you get names like Delhi Smackers.
I stumbled upon the place while I was researching on another new place opened up in Madhapur. DS got a very good review for its food. Pretty much a 100% good review. Anyone who ate there was not disappointed at all. That's some feat for a newly opened, amateurish looking cafe. So I told VidC about it and since it was very close to office, we decided to try it out. Oh, and the very main attraction of the place was its very much praised, apparent authentic Delhi Chole Bhature!
So we came to medium sized place at the beginning of Madhapur road to try out their Delhi ka khana. Must trys for me were pani puri and chole bhature and VidC found the combos also good. So we ordered a plate of pani puri, a plate of chole bhature, a curry combo of achari bhindi and 5 phulkas, a chaach (buttermilk) and sweet lassi! Sounds like a lot of food right. It was! But all for just Rs.213 which we thought was very decent!
We got our pani puri first. They gave 3 nos of normal puris and 3 nos of the famed Delhi Suji puris. The spicy pani was good but they could have made better masala. In fact the masala was not authentic Delhi at all. It was potato and chick peas pieces instead of mashed potatoes and chick peas. But the pani and the puri salvaged the masala deficiency though it got me wondering whether I expected a little too much from this place.
Next the chole bhature was served! And it did not disappoint at all! Served like how it is in Delhi, with a fried paneer and potato piece, pickle and salad, the taste was brilliant! The serving had 2 pretty big bhature with chole. We were almost full after eating it and were wondering if we could eat the bhindi.
The drinks were not bad. My chaach was too salty but nice nevertheless and VidC's sweet lassi was pretty good.
Next came the achari bhindi and what potions! The phulkas were nice, small and light, which was why we could eat them but we still ended up wasting one :( and packed the extra extra bhindi. The bhindi was made well but VidC said she's had better. But it's not bad for a regular lunch or dinner.
After that great meal, we both needed nothing else but a good siesta!
Do visit this place if you want to have good North Indian food, especially the Chole Bhature!
