The Address - HYD

The Address, Wine+Kitchen sounds like a place where you can sip on a variety of interesting wine and dine on some scrumptious dishes. Well, I hadn't gone with expecting to see an extensive list of wine but The Address was a weird experience. It opened a few months after its sister restaurant, The Farm, which is right next to it, opened up. They even share the same building of sorts. By the way, The Farm is a nice, casual place with vintage decor. But, I'm not sure how these two places connect or compliment each other. They both have a good selection of food and drinks, though The Address might have more choice.

As you will see in the pictures below, the lighting in the restaurant was a dull red, lending a nightclub atmosphere to the place. The decor is warm wood with comfortable couches. The restaurant has two levels, with the second level having more seating for smaller groups. Each floor has a bar. When we entered we thought it was a restaurant but the as the evening progressed, a DJ came in and started playing loud hip hop numbers. It then dawned on us that The Address was in fact, a club. It's just not fully set up yet - there is no dance floor. I don't know how a Wine+Kitchen place can be a club. Oh well, on to the food.

We ordered an LIT as the drink of the night. I don't like alcoholic drinks in tall glasses. It's usually just filled with ice and though the first taste is good, you can't sip on it through the night without the ice diluting all the taste and alcohol. This LIT was good for the first few sips - good amount of alcohol and coke. But by the middle of dinner, the ice took over and the same taste did not stay.

Please excuse the picture. As I mentioned, the red lighting was way too dim to see what was served on your plate. This dish is Focaccia bread with marinated cheese with tomato slices. It was basically a piece of focaccia bread with slices of mozzarella and tomato on garlic-basil pesto drizzled with balsamic - a caprese salad. The dish by itself was good, fresh cheese and tomatoes and well-seasoned pesto, but that wasn't I ordered or expected.

They served salad sticks with an Asian dip while we waited for our second appetizer. It was sweet of them since they knew we would have to wait. The sauce was really good. The sweetness of mayo worked well with Thai chilli sauce.

Our second appetiser was fried calamari with pepper mayo dip. There was no pepper in the mayo dip. The fried calamaris weren't very crispy but tasted good. They were perfectly crumbed, almost too perfect. They reminded us of the crumbed cutlets and frozen treats you find in a supermarket. But I haven't found ready-to-fry calamari in any  supermarket yet so the chef gets a thumbs up. It was served with a lemony leaf salad.

For main course, I ordered the spaghetti aglio-e-olio with paprika. Aglio-e-oilo is my go-to comfort food. Simple to make but has the best flavours of garlic and olive oil. The Address's aglio-e-oilo was brilliant. I would gobble this down on a hungry day, sad day, happy day, any day! Al dente spaghetti covered with olive oil, garlic, red and yellow peppers, paprika and topped with parsley and parmesan cheese. The dish was balanced and all ingredients played a role in making it a hit.

We had the barbeque chicken thin crust pizza with extra toppings of olives and jalapeƱos. No complaints about the base. In fact I could taste the yeast which I usually can't in any other thin crust pizza. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, but I like bread so I liked this base. The tomato sauce was full-bodied. The barbeque sauce in the chicken did not come across too strong. I could taste the barbeque sauce only in some chicken pieces which were also pleasantly peppery. But there was very less cheese on the pizza. All toppings together tasted great but the parts without cheese were OK. I would have definitely liked a little more cheese.

We had the tiramisu for dessert and we liked it. Creamy custard and moist, rich coffee cake. It was a little extra syrupy towards the end but it can be excused if you love coffee syrup. It did get me thinking about the tiramisu we get in restaurants here - this was the first time I noticed cake was used in a tiramisu instead of the traditional ladyfingers biscuits.

The Address is good place for a ladies night out or a big group going to drink and have a good time with good food. It's definitely not a quiet dinner place which was what I originally went there for. The place is also on the expensive side. Rs.600 for an LIT is pricey in my opinion. Let's see how the place is when the dance floor comes alive.

Cost for 2: Rs.3700 - too pricey
Taste: 6/10 - nothing too different from any other place for the price.
Service: 7/10 - knowledgeable and courteous staff
Ambience: 8/10 - only because it's a club. But they should make it more clear.
